My Top 8 Back to School Must-Haves

HAPPY FriYAY errrrybody!! If you’ve already started back to school, I hope it has been absolutely fabulous for you! I just wrapped up my first week and I am super excited for this year (and currently so teacher tired!!)  I’m also super thankful to be back teaching middle school. My heart is so happy!Science.jpg

SO! For this week’s blog post, I have compiled a list of my favorite back to school purchases just for youuu! They have been tested and Mrs. Ellis approved! Let’s dive in!

1.Cordless Doorbell

I was cruising around Instragram one day and one of my favorite teachers put this doorbell on her story. I looked it up and sure enough there it was, only $17 on Amazon, so I thought I would give it a try. OH MY GOSH YOU GUYS. THIS. This thing is going to be my voice saver!! In my class I do a lot of group projects, discussing issues by table groups,  and labs. I usually have to yell a callback over them to get their attention- NOT ANYMORE!!! I carry that little remote around with me and the ding goes off BOOM. Dead Silent. I trained them on the very first day (might have scared them a little bit…) but it works like a charm! All you do is plug that bad boy into an outlet and you’re ready to rock! I’ll link that for you right here. Trust me… you’re going to want one..

2. Moon Light

I posted this on my Insta story one day and had so many people message me about it, so I thought I’d add it to my list! The kids think it’s the coolest. It comes with a  remote and you can click through the phases of the moon! I’ll go ahead and link this for you also.

3. My Happy Planner

I literally could not function with out my planner. It’s everything. I am so forgetful so I have to write everything down. I’ve tried using my phone for reminders, but I like to keep it classic with my paper planner. Last year I was gifted an Erin Condren planner which I LOVED, but they are a little too pricey for my liking. I got this Happy planner from Michael’s for 40% off! It has everything I need, I love how it’s set up, and you can add pages to it! I added a notes section in the back which is so handy! Here’s a look at how I organize my week.. For lesson planning, I use sticky notes so I can easily move them around since my week usually doesn’t go as planned! It’s so much better than having to erase. planner2.jpg

4. Young Living Diffuser

As you know from my previous post, my classroom is small. I don’t have a lot of ventilation, so it can get stank reeeeaal quick up in here. I love having my diffuser going. It freshens the room and the kids love to come in and guess what I’m diffusing. Here are some of my favorite oils to diffuse in my classroom…

Joy (Happiness in a bottle! This one smells sooo good. I really believe that it helps brighten moods!)

Peppermint + Lemon (Seasonal support. Smells amazing!)

Clarity (Helps focus and clears the mind.)

Envision (My current favorite! It helps spark creativity!)

5. IKEA Shelf and Magazine Boxes

I don’t have any storage in my classroom and had planned on having my students bring their notebooks everyday to class. (If you teach middle school you might have just cringed!) You see, middle school kids don’t really know how to keep up with their things…. In previous years of teaching, it worked out great to store their interactive science notebooks in my room so that they didn’t come to class unprepared. This shelf is the perfect size for these magazine boxes plus it was only $15 (SCORE!) I had used the boxes in past years teaching to store the notebooks and they were awesome all year! Since I don’t use a textbook, we use this notebook everyday to fill with their resources so it’s important that my students have it everyday.

6. Silhouette Cameo

If you’ve read my first blog post, you know I’m obsessed with my Cameo. Because of it, I was able to make my room so cute and organized. It’s a big purchase, but soooo worth it! The possibilities are endless with what you can create with this thing!

7. Rae Runn

Self explanatory. I love my Rae Dunn! It gives my classroom a home-y feel.

8. Flair Pens (DUH!)

Best. Pens. On. The. Market. End of story.

That’s all for now! Thank you so much for reading my blog. To all my teachers- if you haven’t been told today already- YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Every morning when your feet hit the floor I pray that you remember how special you are and what an important role you play in your student’s lives. You are a life changer and a difference maker. Never stop being awesome!

For your notebook organization do you number students in each class and then they each use the same box? I am using notebooks for the first time in 4 of my classes this year, two different subjects. I am organizing them by having them put them in hanging folders inside milk crates. It is working okay for now but sometimes they are a little messy if we are putting them away quickly. Just thinking about other options for the future.
